Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde Governor, Engr. has urged residents of Ibadan North Local Government to come out in large numbers to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, in the upcoming House of Representatives by-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.

Speaking on Monday during the official flag-off of the PDP campaign at Bodija International Market, Ibadan, Makinde described the election as a crucial opportunity to reaffirm the state’s support for the PDP and its commitment to good governance.

Makinde praised Oyekunle’s credentials, noting his previous service as a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and as Deputy Chief of Staff in the current administration. According to the governor, these roles have prepared Oyekunle for effective representation at the federal level.

“This election is important. We must send a clear message that Oyo State remains a PDP stronghold,” Makinde said. “Our candidate has a proven track record. He didn’t disappoint you before, and he won’t disappoint you now.”

The campaign flag-off event also featured remarks from key party stakeholders.

Director-General of the campaign and former Ibadan North Local Government Chairman, Mr. Ademola Omotosho, thanked the governor for his continued support.

Also speaking were PDP chieftains including former Deputy Governor Barr. Hazeem Gbolarumi; Hon. Gabriel Babajide (Ibadan North I); and Hon. Dada Awoleye, Chairman of the Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board.

They called on residents, especially market leaders and community mobilizers, to ensure high voter turnout across all 12 wards of the local government.

Prominent party figures at the event included Deputy Governor Barr. Bayo Lawal; Member representing Ibadan South-West/North-West, Hon. Stanley Olajide; PDP State Secretary Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke; and the chairman of Oyo State Local Government Chairmen, Hon. Sikiru Sanda.
