Oyo Govt Kicks Off Second Phase of Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport Terminal
… As Upgrade to Boost Economic Growth, Increase Passenger Capacity to One Million
Oyo state Government has laid the foundation stone and the turning of Surd of the second phase of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport Terminal upgrade to International Airport.
The event was held at the airport premises to kick start the second phase of the upgrade of airport to International Standard.
Speaking with newsmen, the Chairman of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport upgrade, Hon. Bimbo Adekambi said foundation laying is symbolic, noting that after the completion the International terminal will be handling the capacity of One million passengers per-anum from the hundred thousand of the current local terminal.
He appealed to residents living within the airport to bear with them on the inconveniences that they may encounter, and denied encroachment on the properties of the residents.
He emphasised that the upgrade is within the perimeter of the existing airport, as no single resident was affected.
In his remark, The Chairman 42 Communities Development Association, located within Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Dr. Duro Ogunsesan Appealed to the state government for compensation to the affected residents.
The upgrade of the Airport to international standard include; The Extension of the runway from 2400 to 3000 Square metres, expansion of the Apron and Airlift Lighting.
