WASA 2024: 2Division Nigerian Army Reaffirms Commitment to Peace, Security of Nigeria

The General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Obinna Onubogu has assured the people of Oyo state and his area of responsibility to redouble their efforts in maintaining a safe and secure environment for law abiding citizens to carry out their legitimate businesses without fear or any hindrance.

The General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Major General Onubogu made this statement during the 2024 annual West Africa Social Activities organized by the Nigerian aimed at identifying and preserving the rich cultural heritage and tradition within and around Nigerian Army Barracks and Communities.

The WASA program is an annual program that involved the Nigerian Army in Showcasing it diverse cultural heritage within various formations and units to mark the end of the year’s activities.

In address, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Obinna Onubogu vowed to collaborate more with other sister secuy agencies in order to achieve greater results and incapacitated those disturbing the peace of the peace.

He pledged his loyalty on behalf of all the military personnel in the division thr Chief of Army Staff to continue to give their best to keep Nigerians united and secure.

Major General Onubogu further promised to continue in rewarding diligence and loyalty while an act of indiscipline will receive appropriate sanctions as discipline is the bedrock of the Nigerian Army.

He conveyed the message of the Chief of Army Staff to the officers of the division for their professional and manner with which they discharged their responsibilities and for collective and individual efforts towards dislodging illegal minners, kidnapping, Armed robbery, Smuggling, Impersonation ans other sundo crimes.

Major General Onubogu expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen. Olufemi Oluyede for support for the division from the beginning of the year till the end of 2024.

In his remark, the Executive Governor of Oyo State Engr. Seyi Makinde who was represented by the deputy governor, Barr. Adebayo Lawal assured the military and the personnel of the Nigerian Army that the present administration remain committed to promote the cordial relationship between the civil society and the military for better and greater understanding and mutual co-existence.

He further appreciated the division’s support to the present administration in curtailing the activities of kidnappers, Illegal Minners, among other crime and promoting peace and tranquility in Oyo state.

Governor Makinde commended the role of the Nigerian Army in collaborating with other security agencies to keep Oyo state in peace.

He urged the Nigerian Army to maintain and sustain the tempo and assured the military that the people of Oyo state is ready to support and coperate with the Nigerian Army in order to reap the full benefits and dividend of peace and security in the state.

He bemoaned the challenges of multi-faceted security, ranging from criminal incursion from neighboring countries to Nigeria, such as banditry, Illegal Minning, and proliferation small arms and ammunition.

Governor Makinde further attributed the the porosity of Nigeria border to all the security challenges confronting the country and commended the Nigeria for its great role played to ward -off the menace of criminality in Oyo state and in Nigeria.

The governor noted that Nigerian Army West Africa Social Activities 2024 remind the people of the nation’s diversity and diversity lies the country strength and unity stressed that Nigeria Army is a strong symbol of the unity of Nigeria.

He further urged the Nigerian Army not to relent on the Military-Civil relationship ongoing in the state and promised to support the military in any area the of the present administration are needed.

The event which was further showcase the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria where each cultural troops displayed their dancing skills and with different delicacies were showcased to show the diversity cultural heritage of Nigeria.

At the end of the event some outstanding Military officers were rewarded for their diligence, professionalism and dedication to the Nigerian Army with Award and with cash reward

The Area of Responsibility of the 2Division Nigerian Army are; Oyo, Edo, Kogi, Kwara, Ondo, Osun, and Niger States.
