Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has reflected on the Bodija Explosion that occurred on January 16, 2024, resulting in the loss of lives and properties.

The governor expressed his condolences to the families of the victims through his Newsletter today, prayed for the souls of the departed to rest in peace.

According to Governor Makinde, those directly involved in the storage of explosives in the residential area have been arrested and are being prosecuted at the Federal High Court, Ibadan, under the Terrorism Prohibition and Prevention Act 2022.

The governor assured that the state government is committed to ensuring that justice is served.

In memory of the victims, Governor Makinde announced plans to build a memorial at the site of the explosion later this year.

The committee established to oversee the disbursement of financial support to victims has submitted its report, and disbursements will be made within the next two weeks.

The state government has also begun rehabilitating the roads in the area to repair some of the damage done.

Governor Makinde emphasized the importance of investing in the security of lives and properties to prevent similar disasters in the future.

Recall that the governor signed Executive Order 001, 2024, on the Safe Handling and Storage of Harmful Substances Within Oyo State.

This executive order aims to regulate the handling and storage of hazardous materials to prevent accidents.

Governor Makinde urged citizens to support security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities.

He emphasized the importance of community involvement in preventing disasters like the Bodija Explosion.

The governor’s efforts to address the aftermath of the explosion have been commended by various stakeholders.
