Makinde Presents Staff of Office to New Elempe of Tapa

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has presented the instrument/staff of office to the newly crowned Elempe of Tapa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Titiloye Oyekanmi. Sunday.

The event, which took place on Monday at the Elempale Community High School, marked a significant milestone in the history of the community as the new monarch assumed his position of authority.

Speaking at the occasion, the deputy governor, Barr. Bayo Lawal, who represented the governor at the event, emphasized the importance of the Elempe’s role in promoting unity, peace, and development in the community.

He lauded the selection process that led to Oba Titiloye Oyekanmi’s ascension to the throne as a testament to the community’s commitment to tradition, transparency, and the rule of law. 

Barr Lawal also noted that this was a great day for the community and all those who believe in the enduring power of their customs and traditions.

He also urged the monarch to collaborate closely with the government in addressing pressing issues, including security and economic development.
“I charge Oba Titiloye Oyekanmi to embrace the responsibilities that come with this exalted position. I implore him to work closely with the government to address the pressing needs of our community, including education, healthcare, security, and economic development.”

Barr. Lawal also spoke about the need for the monarch to tackle the scourges of kidnapping, banditry, and land grabbing that have plagued the community, calling for the Elempe’s cooperation and support in eradicating these menaces.

“As Oba Titiloye Oyekanmi begins his reign, I remind him that leadership is a sacred trust that requires wisdom, compassion, and integrity. His reign should be characterized by grace, humility, and a deep commitment to the well-being of all,” he added.

During the ceremony, the deputy governor praised the community for its support throughout the selection process and underscored the importance of maintaining the traditional values and principles of the Elempe lineage.

“The selection process that led to Oba Titilayo Oyekanmi’s ascension to the throne was a testament to our commitment to tradition, transparency, and the rule of law.”

This is a great day for Tapa and for all those who believe in the enduring power of our customs and traditions.”

In his closing remarks, the deputy governor presented the instrument/staff of office to the new Elempe and congratulated him on his appointment.

“In exercise of the power conferred upon the deputy governor by sub-sections (1) and (2) of Section 20 of the Chiefs Law Cap 28 Vol.1 Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000,” 

‘I hereby present the instrument/staff of office to His Royal Majesty, Oba Titilayo Oyekanmi, Sunday. May your reign be long, prosperous, and marked by peace and progress.”

In his acceptance speech, Oba Sunday Oyekanmi Titiloye expressed  gratitude to God and appreciation to Governor ‘Seyi seyi  Makinde for the gesture reiterating that the throne shall be a bridge between the government and the people assuring that the town will  witness unprecedented turnaround through the elevation brought to the Elempe throne by this instrument of office and coronation 

“This event of today is unprecedented in our community. What we are witnessing here today is a testímony of your commitment to the sanctity and preservation of our traditions and ethos on the one hand and your unflinching regard for those vested with upholding of our customs and culture.

Tapa Land under my watch will witness tremendous development, peace and unparalleled growth in the ngme of God, the very King who governs the affairs of men with truth and without bias.

This instrument of office will further accentuate the place of our great land in the comity of communities.
Earlier in his welcome address, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters Hon Ademola Ojo said the historic event serves as a pivotal moment in the chronicles of Tapa, signifying the passage of authority and leadership to a new era under the reign of our revered Oba.

“The ceremonial presentation of the staff of office symbolizes wisdom, valor, and unity, bestowing upon His Royal Majesty the solemn duty of shepherding his people towards a brighter and more prosperous future.

“As we witness the ceremonial transfer of power, let us reiterate our steadfast commitment to upholding the timeless principles that have shaped Tapa for generations.

 ” May this significant juncture serve as a catalyst for unity, progress, and abundance within our community, and may the reign of His Royal Majesty be characterized by sagacity, empathy, and benevolence.” he said
