Insecurity:Army flags off Operation Still Waters in Ibadan

In a bid to curtail the spate of insecurity in the country, the Nigerian Army has flagged off Operation Still Waters within the jurisdiction of the 2 Division, Nigerian Army.

The flag off, which took place at the Step Up Headquarters, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonement, Ibadan, Oyo State, Southwest Nigeria, was supervised by the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Gold Chibuisi.

As the scourge of insurgency and banditry continues to rage across various parts of the country, President Buhari has directed the Nigerian military to work at stemming the cankerworm, and the Nigerian Army has said it is leaving no stone unturned in checking the challenges.

Consequently, the Nigerian Army, at an event which had in attendance heads of security formations in Oyo State, has flagged off Operation Still Waters, with the aim of ensuring the safety of lives and property within its jurisdiction comprising Oyo, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun and Kwara states.

The team is made up of officers from the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Security Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigeria Customs Service, among others.

In his address at the flag-off, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Major General Gold Chibuisi, said the operation remains the initiative of the Chief of Army staff to curtail insecurity, create Military-Civil Relations and boost troops’ ability to tackle insecurity, noting that the joint operations would further boost collaboration between security agencies.

On his part, Governor Seyi Makinde, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi, stressed the need for cooperation and collaboration among security agencies in the country for the success of the ongoing onslaught against bandits, while promising the support of his government and the good people of Oyo State for the success of Operation Still Waters.

Just like Operation Enduring Peace and Operation New Dawn are flagged off in other jurisdictions of the Nigerian Army, Operation Still Waters is expected to stem the tide of insecurity in the 2 Division jurisdiction of the Nigerian Army, by deploying real time intelligence which would inturn strengthen a military/civilians relations.
