The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, has called on officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army to uphold unity, discipline, and professionalism as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitr.

The message was delivered on his behalf by the Corps Commander, Nigerian Army Supply and Transport, Major General Nansak Shagaya, during a Salah luncheon with troops in the field within the 2 Division Area of Responsibility held at Igbeti, Oyo State.

In his keynote address, the Army Chief congratulated Muslim personnel and their families for successfully completing the holy month of Ramadan, describing Eid-el-Fitr as a period of spiritual renewal, sacrifice, and self-discipline that aligns with the core values of military service.

He noted that this year’s observance was particularly significant, as the Ramadan fast coincided with the Christian Lenten season, allowing both Muslim and Christian personnel to engage in simultaneous spiritual reflection.

According to him, the rare alignment underscored the unity and shared purpose within the Nigerian Army, despite differences in religious practices.

“The essence of both observances, sacrifice, humility, compassion, and renewal, reflects the moral foundation of military service,” he said.

He emphasized that the convergence of the two sacred periods demonstrated that diversity, when anchored on mutual respect, strengthens cohesion within the force rather than divides it.

Reaffirming his leadership commitment, the Army Chief assured personnel that their welfare remains a top priority, stressing that the strength of the Army lies in the well-being and morale of its troops.

He pledged continued efforts to improve living conditions, enhance professional development, and strengthen support systems for military families.

The address also highlighted the importance of collaboration among security agencies, as he expressed appreciation to sister services and intelligence organizations for their continued cooperation in maintaining national security.

The Army Chief urged personnel to carry forward the lessons of Ramadan by promoting compassion, humility, discipline, and unity in their service to the nation.

In his address, the Special guest of honor, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde commended officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army for their sacrifices in maintaining peace and security across the state and the country.

He described the conclusion of Ramadan as a period that reflects sacrifice, noting that no group understands the concept better that men and women in uniform who remain on the frontline while others celebrate with their families.

“While many Nigerians celebrate with their loved ones, our troops remain in the field ensuring the safety and security of the rest of us,” he said.

The governor praised the troops deployed in Oyo State for their dedication, stating that economic growth, investment, education, and social stability cannot thrive in an insecure environment.

“If there is no security, investment and economic activities cannot flourish.

Even education becomes difficult in an atmosphere of insecurity.” he stated.

Makinde emphasized that the sacrifices of the troops must be matched with improved welfare, adding that their well-being should not be treated as optional

He also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and the leadership of the Nigerian Army for implementating policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of personnel.

The governor urged the troops to remain Steadfast in their duties, encouraging them to sustain their efforts in safeguarding lives and property.

Earlier in his welcome address, The General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General, Chinedu Nnebeife, urged the troops to remain vigilant and maintain operational momentum, assuring them of continued support from Army leadership in the fight against insecurity.

The GOC also reiterated that Nigerian Army’s determination to neutralize threats posed by terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements across the country.

He acknowledged the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu’s administrative initiative which reflects the Army leadership’s commitment to troop welfare.

According to him, the Salah Luncheon is not merely a celebration but a strategic initiative rooted in the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy, aimed at transforming the Nigerian Army into a professional, adaptable, and Combat-ready force.

He emphasized that the “soldier-first” concept remains central to this vision, focusing on boosting morale and enhancing operational effectiveness.

“By bringing this celebration to the frontline, the Chief of Army Staff has demonstrated that the sacrifices of troops are recognized and valued,” he said.

Highlighting recent operational achievements, Major General Nnebeife praised troops for their role in dismantling criminal networks, combating banditry and kidnapping, and restoring confidence among civilians.

“These successes have strengthened the bond between the military and the civil populace, reflecting your discipline and teamwork even under difficult conditions,” he stated.

He commended officers and soldiers of the division for their dedication and professionalism, urging them to uphold the core values of the Nigerian Army and justify the confidence reposed in them by both the leadership and the Nigerian people.

The event was attended by the top Military officers, government officials, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries.
