Makinde Advocates Enhanced Welfare for Military Personnel at Army Sallah Celebration in Oyo

…Says security remains foundation for economic growth, praises soldiers’ sacrifices

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has called for improved welfare for military personnel, stressing that their sacrifices must be matched with adequate support and care.

Makinde made the call on Friday during the Chief of Army Staff Special Sallah Celebration with troops of the 2 Division Nigerian Army at the Forward Operating Base in Igbeti, Olorunsogo Local Government Area of the state.

The governor noted that the well-being of troops should be treated as a priority rather than a privilege, given their role in safeguarding lives and property.

He commended the officers and soldiers for their dedication to maintaining peace and security, stating that their efforts have helped position Oyo State as one of the safest in Nigeria.

Makinde attributed the state’s achievements in sectors such as the economy, education, and healthcare to the stable security environment provided by the military.

“While many celebrate with their families, our troops remain on the frontlines to keep the rest of us safe. Their sacrifices are invaluable,” he said.

He emphasized that no meaningful development can take place without security, noting that investment, trade, and education can only thrive in a peaceful environment.

The governor also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, for initiatives aimed at improving troop welfare, while urging soldiers to remain steadfast in their duties.

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, represented by Major General Nansak Shagaya, Commander, Corps of Supply and Transport, commended the troops for their discipline, resilience, and commitment, which he said have contributed to improved security in the area.

He also paid tribute to fallen heroes and acknowledged the support of the Oyo State Government in enhancing operational successes.

Similarly, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, appreciated the state government for its sustained support to the Nigerian Army, noting that the luncheon was part of initiatives to boost troop morale.

The event was attended by top military officers, government officials, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries.
