The Chairman of the Oyo State Hospitals’ Management Board, Dr. Akin Fagbemi, has reacted to allegations circulating on social media concerning activities at Igbeti General Hospital, describing the claims as serious and deserving of thorough investigation.

Fagbemi stated that the Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Seyi Makinde, maintains a zero-tolerance policy for negligence, misconduct, or any act capable of endangering patients’ lives across its health facilities.

He noted that the allegations,ranging from claims of a cartel among nurses to alleged patient deaths and administrative irregularities, have been brought to the attention of the Board.

“These claims are weighty and cannot be ignored.

We are committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and patient care in all our facilities,” he said.

The Chairman assured the public that an independent and transparent investigation has been initiated to ascertain the facts surrounding the allegations.

“We urge members of the public to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.

Anyone found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary actions in line with civil service rules and medical ethics,” he added.

Fagbemi further disclosed that the Board has invited individuals behind the allegations to appear at the State Secretariat on Monday to provide more information that will aid the investigation.

He emphasized that the Board would engage relevant stakeholders, including community leaders and hospital staff, to ensure a fair and comprehensive review of the situation.

The Chairman reiterated the commitment of the present administration to delivering affordable and sustainable healthcare services, stressing that maintaining high standards in the health sector remains a top priority.

He encouraged residents to continue patronizing government health facilities, assuring that no act undermining public trust in the system would be tolerated.

“The safety and well-being of our people remain our top priority.

We will not condone any act that undermines public trust in our health system,” he said.
