Senegal Slams CAF Over AFCON Trophy Controversy, Takes Fight to CAS

…As FSF condemns ruling as “unacceptable” after Morocco awarded 3-0 victory

Following the stripping of Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has condemned the ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as “unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable,” warning that the decision risks discrediting African football.

In a press release issued and signed by the FSF Secretary General and issued in Dakar on March 17th, the FSF confirmed it will appeal the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, in a bid to defend its rights and protect the interests of Senegalese football.

The controversy stems from a decision by CAF’s Appeals Board in case DC23316, relating to match no. 52 of the TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 between Senegal and Morocco.

The Appeals Board ruled in favor of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), overturning an earlier verdict by CAF’s Disciplinary Board.

According to CAF, the initial ruling was set aside on the basis that Morocco’s right to be heard had not been respected during the original proceedings.

The Appeals Committee subsequently found that Senegal’s conduct breached Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations.

As a result, the match was awarded to Morocco by forfeit, with a 3-0 scoreline recorded in favor of the North African side.

Reacting strongly, the FSF rejected the outcome, insisting the decision undermines principles of fairness and sporting justice.

The federation reiterated its commitment to integrity and pledged to keep the public informed as it pursues legal redress.
