Security operatives have launched an intensive operation following a reported bandit attack at the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) headquarters in Ibadan.

Initial reports indicated that armed assailants struck the nursery section of the institute earlier in the day, raising concerns over the safety of staff and visitors.

Eyewitness accounts suggested that several individuals were targeted during the attack, prompting urgent calls for security intervention.

Confirming developments, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olayinka Ayanlade disclosed that four persons were kidnapped during the incident.

However, one of the victims has since been rescued.

“One of the four kidnapped victims has been successfully rescued, and his vehicle recovered,” Ayanlade said.

He added that the police had escalated efforts to secure the area and apprehend the perpetrators.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has directed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, alongside other tactical teams, to reinforce the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Idi-Ayunre Division, and other operatives in an ongoing intensive bush combing operation,” he stated.

According to the police spokesperson, the rescued individual is currently receiving attention from authorities.

“The rescued victim is currently in safe custody and undergoing debriefing,” he said.

Security presence has reportedly been strengthened around the institute and neighbouring communities as the search continues for the remaining victims and suspects.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and provide any useful information that could aid the ongoing operation.
