Oyo Govt Cracks Down on Illegal Fuel Sellers, Shanties Along Lagos–Ibadan Expressway

…Warns residents against patronising adulterated petroleum products

Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to clamp down on the activities of illegal petroleum product sellers operating along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters and Head of the Security Task Force, Sunday Odukoya (rtd), stated this during a special task force operation aimed at curbing the activities of illegal fuel vendors along the expressway in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Speaking with journalists during the enforcement exercise, Odukoya said the state government would not relent until the illegal activities are completely eradicated. He stressed that the sale of adulterated petroleum products poses serious safety and security risks to residents and road users.

According to him, investigations have revealed that many individuals involved in the illicit trade are linked to criminal activities. He added that despite several warnings and previous enforcement actions by the government, many of the operators have remained defiant, leaving authorities with no option but to intensify enforcement operations.

Odukoya also appealed to members of the public to support the efforts of security agencies by refusing to patronize illegal fuel sellers and by promptly reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

The special task force conducting the operation comprises officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, officials from the Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, as well as operatives of the Amotekun Corps.
