Oyo Police Arrest Three Suspected Robbers, Recover Gun, Phones and Cash in Ibadan

…As Police Command recovers pump-action gun, phones and ₦130,000 during stop-and-search operation

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered a firearm, several mobile phones, and cash during a stop-and-search operation in Ibadan.

According to a statement issued on today by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, operatives of the command intercepted a suspect during a patrol operation around the General Gas area of Akobo, Ibadan.

The suspect, identified as Abiodun Adeyemi Michael, was reportedly riding a motorcycle when he sighted the patrol team and attempted to flee, Police officers immediately pursued and apprehended him.

According to the statement, a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a Magnum pump-action gun loaded with six live cartridges, several mobile phones of different brands, a Wi-Fi device, a power bank, an Oraimo radio, four wristwatches, and a cash sum of ₦130,000.

Police said the recovered phones include several iPhone models, Tecno phones, Redmi devices, and a Samsung Galaxy S10.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to participating in robbery operations with three accomplices, Olaoluwa Pamole, Ahmed Ismail and Lamidi, targeting members of the public around the Toll Gate and Egbeda areas of Ibadan.

Following the confession, a team of operatives from the command’s Monitoring Unit, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Akobo Division, raided a meeting point at Access Hotel in the Sawmill area of Onipepeye along Iwo Road, Ibadan.

The operation led to the arrest of two additional suspects, Pamole and Ismail, while the third suspect, Lamidi, escaped and is currently at large.

Police also disclosed that the suspects confessed to their involvement in the snatching of an ash-coloured Honda vehicle in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, ordered that the case be transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for further investigation and prosecution.

He also directed that efforts be intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect.

The command commended the professionalism of its operatives for their swift response and reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

Victims who recently lost valuables to robbery around the Egbeda and Toll Gate areas were advised to visit the Command Monitoring Unit to identify and claim recovered items after proper verification.
