Court of Appeal Upholds Suspension of Wike-Backed PDP Officials
The Appeal Court has affirmed the suspension of several national officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including former National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and former National Organising Secretary Umar Bature. This ruling upholds the PDP National Working Committee’s disciplinary measures, reinforcing the party’s authority to regulate internal affairs.
In a related decision, the court dismissed an appeal by Kabiru Turaki-led PDP, challenging the Federal High Court’s nullification of the Ibadan national convention. The convention was deemed invalid for violating the PDP’s constitution and Electoral Act provisions, with a N2 million fine imposed on the appellants.
The Wike-backed Caretaker Committee’s validity is now in question, pending NEC’s decision. There’s speculation that PDP NEC might appoint Turaki’s leadership as the Caretaker Committee to comply with the Electoral Act.
