Oyo State Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Murder of 62-Year-Old Woman in Ido LG

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the suspected murder of a 62-year-old woman at Ori-Apata Oderemi area of Ido in Ibadan.

This was disclosed by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka revealed that the incident was reported by a good Samaritan who discovered the woman’s lifeless body along a bush path within the community.

According to the statement the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on her neck.

The statement further noted that the preliminary investigations indicate that the body may have been at the location for about seven days before it was discovered.

The remains were evacuated to Adeoyo General Hospital for autopsy and post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Police authorities said the scene was immediately sealed off while forensic experts processed and gathered evidence to aid the investigation.

According to the statement, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further discreet inquiry, and the police identified the suspects as Muhammed Sanusi, 42, and Ogbu James Ajah, 40, both residents of the Ori-Apata area of Ido and currently in custody at the State CID and are assisting investigators, efforts are ongoing to apprehend any other accomplices linked to the crime.

The incident initially sparked protests by family members of the deceased and sympathisers within the community.

However, the situation was brought under control following the intervention of the Divisional Police Officer of Ido Division and the Local Government Chairman, who appealed for calm and urged residents not to take the law into their own hands.

Security presence has since been reinforced in the area, with joint patrols involving other security agencies and tactical teams deployed to maintain order and reassure residents.

In a show of support, the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, alongside representatives of the Oyo State Government, visited the community to assess the situation and commiserate with the bereaved family.

He directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to coordinate deployments aimed at ensuring sustained peace in the area.

The Command expressed appreciation to the Oyo State Government for its swift intervention and to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his continued support.

The Police authorities assured residents that thorough investigations are ongoing and pledged that those responsible will be brought to justice.

The police urged members of the public to remain calm and provide credible information to aid the investigation.
