Oyo Police Seize Suspected Illicit Drugs in Ibadan, Launch Manhunt for Suspect

Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have uncovered and seized large quantities of suspected illicit drugs from an apartment in Ibadan, following credible intelligence reports, the police have said.

The recovery was made at a residence along Abanise Street in the Academy area of Olomi, Ibadan, where the apartment was allegedly being used as a drug stockpiling point by a suspect identified as Oluwadamilare Adedayo.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, detectives were deployed to the location after receiving actionable intelligence from a strategic partner of the Command and a thorough search of the apartment and its surrounding area led to the recovery of nine bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 101 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Canadian Loud, and other hard drugs.

The recovered items were secured as exhibits, effectively disrupting what the police described as a suspected drug distribution network within the area.

The suspect was not found at the scene during the operation. However, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, has ordered an intensive surveillance and manhunt to ensure the suspect’s arrest.

CP Haruna commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his leadership and continued support for intelligence-led policing across the country.

He also praised the collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, sister security agencies, and community stakeholders, noting that timely intelligence played a key role in the success of the operation.

The police reiterated their commitment to combating drug-related crimes in the state and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information, stressing that security remains a shared responsibility.
