Makinde Charges New Environment Commissioner on Performance, Environmental Reforms

…As Aderinto pledges tougher waste control, climate action

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has charged the newly sworn-in Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ademola Aderinto, to deliver measurable results and lead reforms that will significantly improve environmental management across the state.

The governor gave the charge during the swearing-in ceremony of Aderinto at the Executive Council Chambers, Secretariat, Ibadan, describing the Ministry of Environment as a critical but challenging sector in his administration.

Makinde noted that environmental issues in the state are deeply rooted in cultural practices, making reforms difficult, but stressed that the situation must change.

He said the ministry is an area where his government expects stronger performance going forward.

The governor urged him to justify the confidence reposed in him through improved environmental policies and service delivery.

While congratulating the new Commissioner, Makinde reminded him that the appointment comes with greater responsibility, stating that the reward for hard work is more work.

He expressed confidence in Aderinto’s capacity to succeed, citinghis previous role as Special Assistant on Environment.

Reiterating his administration’s stance on merit-based leadership, Makinde said appointments in Oyo State are made based on competence and value, not political loyalty or godfatherism.

Makinde further reminded the new Commissioner that the was limited, with about 15 months left in the life of the administration, but emphasized that meaningful impact could still be achieved within that period.

Speaking with Journalist, the newly sworn-in Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources pledged to intensify efforts in waste management, climate action, and environmental protection, assuring residents that his ministry is entering a phase of consolidation and visible action.

He also spoke on the reintroduction of thursday environmental sanitation, explaining that the policy is aimed at instilling a culture of cleanliness among residents, rather than limiting environmental responsibility to single day.

Hon. Aderinto further disclosed that existing laws against noise pollution and other environmental interactions would now be strictly enforced.

The Commissioner expressed confidence that the Makinde administration would be remembered for getting environmental issues right, including water management, climate action, and environmental protection.

Aderinto assured residents that the Ministry of Environment would deploy all necessary measures to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment across Oyo State.
