Olubadan Emerges Chairman Oyo State Council of Oba As Alaafin Absent at Inauguration

…As Makinde revives Council of Obas after 15 years, promises institutional support

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appointed the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, as Chairman of the newly inaugurated Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, 15 years after the council was last constituted.

The governor inaugurated the council on Tuesday at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan, with about 30 traditional rulers from across the state in attendance.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, was however absent from the event.

Governor Makinde disclosed that the inauguration followed extensive consultations with the three imperial monarchs in the state.

He added that the chairmanship of the council would rotate among the imperial rulers every two years.

While thanking traditional rulers for their cooperation and support, the governor expressed confidence that the council would work collectively to promote unity, peace, and development across Oyo State.

Makinde also assured that his administration would provide the council with the necessary support, including a befitting House of Chiefs and other infrastructural facilities, to ensure its effective operation.

Speaking with journalists after the inauguration, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, commended the governor for reviving the council and expressed optimism that the traditional institution would collaborate to advance peace and progress in the state.

The absence of the Alaafin of Oyo at the meeting was noticeable, a development that may be connected to the ongoing tension between the Alaafin and the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
