Olubadan Charges NUJ Oyo Executives on Ethics as Union Receives Royal Blessings

The newly inaugurated executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, at his palace in Ibadan.

The delegation was led by the Chairman of the council, Comrade Akeem Abas, who said the visit was to formally introduce the new leadership of the union to the monarch and sought his royal blessings.

Also on the delegation were the Vice Chairman, Comrade Abiodun Atilola; the Secretary, Comrade Temidayo Adu; the Treasurer, Comrade Moses Morenikeji; the Ex-Officio, Comrade Imran Khalid; and a member of the National Board of Trustees, Comrade Seye Ojo.

Speaking, Comrade Abas described Oba Ladoja as a symbol of uncommon divine grace, noting that his trajectory as a former senator, governor of Oyo State and now the Olubadan of Ibadanland remained unprecedented.

In a statement issued by the Secretary of the Council, Temidayo Adu, the NUJ chairman said the monarch’s record of public service and leadership was unmatched, adding that his emergence as Olubadan had further reinforced his place in the political and traditional history of the state.

Comrade Abas also commended Oba Ladoja for his consistent support for the NUJ and journalists in Oyo State, describing the monarch as a dependable ally of the media in the Pacesetter State.

He appealed to the Olubadan to continue to offer guidance, wisdom and support to the union, stressing that such encouragement would help improve the welfare and professional practice of journalists in the state.

In his response, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, congratulated the new executives on their emergence and charged them to uphold the ethics of the journalism profession.

The monarch specifically advised journalists to shun bias and partisanship, urging them to embrace fairness, balance and objectivity in the discharge of their duties for the overall development of society.
