NUP Honours Makinde with White Horse
…As Pensioners commend governor’s commitment to welfare, pension reforms in Oyo State
The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo State Council, has presented a white horse to Governor Seyi Makinde in appreciation of his sustainability and commitment to the welfare of pensioners in the state.
The presentation was made at the Inter-Faith Prayer Service held at the State Secretariat in Ibadan. Presenting the gift on behalf of the union, the NUP Secretary, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, said the decision to offer a white horse was informed by its spiritual significance, which he described as symbolising peace, harmony, divinity, and a new beginning.
Comrade Abatan noted that Governor Makinde’s interventions in the welfare of pensioners since assuming office had been extensive, adding that documenting his contributions would require an entire book.
He commended the governor for the recent increase in pensions, which took effect in January 2025, and appealed for the extension of similar considerations to pensioners in tertiary institutions and retired Heads of Local Government Administration.
In his response, Governor Seyi Makinde expressed appreciation to the union for the gesture and assured members that the white horse would be put to good use.
