Community in Panic After Deadly Bandit Attack in Oyo claims Four Lives, Traditional Ruler Relocates

Suspected bandits have attacked the National Park Service office in Oloka, Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, killing four personnel and leaving one critically injured.

The attack occurred at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Preliminary reports indicate that at least five officers of the National Park Service were affected during the attack.

An eyewitness, who spoke to NationalDailyNews.Com.ng Olanrewaju on condition of anonymity, said the assailants struck the facility at night, killing four officers on the spot, while another sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Another reliable source, who requested anonymity, disclosed that the traditional ruler of Oloka town, the Baale of Oloka, Chief Joel Olatunde Alagbe, has reportedly relocated from the community due to growing security concerns in the area.

The source added that the development has left many residents feeling vulnerable, as several villagers have also fled the town in search of safety.

Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, told NationalDailyNews.Com.ngthat the attack was carried out by yet-to-be-identified armed men.

DSP Olayinka disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, alongside other security chiefs, is already en route to the area to assess the situation.

He added that the Commissioner has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, Mobile Police Force operatives, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit to the affected community.

According to the police, the deployment is aimed at restoring calm, preventing further breakdown of law and order, and ensuring the safety of lives and property.

The police have assured residents that the situation is under control and urged the public to remain calm as investigations and security operations continue.
