Ibadan stakeholders unite to defend Olubadan traditional Institutions
…cautions Alaafin Owoade against ridiculing Ladoja
The traditional stakeholders, Monarchs, Mogajis, Baales, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiatives (ICPI), and prominent sons and daughters of the ancient city have issued a stern warning to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade and all his Political and traditional stooges not to take Ibadan for granted in any way.
The stakeholders made it clear that the people of Ibadan will not tolerate any actions or reactions that could ridicule the Olubadan stool and Ibadan traditional system.
This warning follows a sitting arrangement issue that arose between the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Sen Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja FNSE, other traditional Rulers and representative of the Alaafin of Oyo during a recent security meeting held in Ibadan.
A statement by the President of Ibadan Mogajis, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, and Coordinator of Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI), Mogaji Dr. Nurudeen Akinade, emphasized that Ibadanland will not be treated as inferior to Oyo or any other town in Yorubaland.
“Ibadanland will not play a second fiddle to anyone, Ibadanland has always maintained its dignity in Yoruba tradition, and this will not change.”
The stakeholders called on all Yorubaland leaders to prevail on the Alaafin of Oyo, warning that the gentility of Ibadanland people should not be mistaken for weakness.
They emphasized that the issue of the Chairmanship of the Oyo State Council of Oba’s and Chiefs has been laid to rest and should not be revisited.
The statement highlighted the Olubadan’s distinguished background as a former Senator, Governor, and successful businessman, emphasizing that he will not be subjected to any form of ridicule.
“Ibadan mesi, won o go” (Ibadan has spoken, we won’t go back), the statement concluded, indicating the resolve of the people of Ibadan to defend their dignity and tradition.
“Ibadanland deserves respect, and any attempt to undermine its traditional institutions will be met with resistance. The people of Ibadan are united in their determination to protect their heritage.”
