Oyo NUJ Chairman Akeem Abas Reaches Out to Opponents for Unity
The newly elected Chairman of the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akeem Abas, has reached out to his two opponents who lost in the Tuesday council election to ensure inclusivity within the union.
In a bid to foster unity and cohesion, Abas made personal telephone calls to both Raji Adebayo of the Divine Mandate Team and Olusola Oladapo of the Consolidation Team.
Abas, who led the Great Minds Team to victory, emphasised the importance of working together for the collective growth of the union, despite the competitive nature of the elections. In the brief but significant conversations, he expressed his commitment to inclusiveness and collaboration in his leadership.
In a statement issued by the Secretary of the Council, Dayo Adu, Abas reiterated that the union’s success hinges on unity and collective efforts.
The NUJ chairman noted that the victory was not solely his own but a shared triumph with the entire Oyo NUJ membership, adding that he is committed to working with all stakeholders.
Abas also stressed that personal ambition should not hinder the progress and unity of the union. He called for an end to division, urging all contestants and members to put the union’s interests above individual goals, in order to foster peace and progress within the Oyo NUJ.
