…Abass says his administration will prioritise training, ethics, collaboration to strengthen journalism practice across Oyo State

The Newly elected chairman of Oyo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Comrade Akeem Babatunde Abass has declared a “state of emergency on professionalism,” signaling his readiness to prioritize ethical standards and capacity building within the union.

Speaking shortly after his declaration as winner, Abass thanked the leaders, delegates and members across all chapels for the confidence reposed in him, describing the victory as a collective achievement rather that an individual one.

He explained that the declaration marks the beginning of a comprehensive agenda aimed at restoring excellence in journalism practice across Oyo State.

According to him, the NUJ under his leadership will roll out targeted training programmes, enforce compliance with professional ethics, and promote a culture of continuous learning among members.

Abass added that the council will strengthen collaboration with media organizations, regulatory bodies and training institutions to ensure that journalists in the state remain well-equipped to meet modern challenges in the industry.

He stressed that professionalism must remain the bedrock of the union’s activities, noting that credible journalism is essential to democracy, public trust and national development.

The chairman called on all members to support the new direction, emphasizing that collective commitment is required to reposition the Oyo State NUJ for greater impact and relevance.

Declaring the election outcome, the retuning officer and the Vice president of the Southwest zone, Ronke Samo thanked all and sundry for their support.

She said though the election was though but the election was a success.

Ronke Samo implored the new chairman to be people oriented and work to keep the Union united.

She extolled the outgoing chairman Ademola Babalola and his ex-co for setting good precept for the union.

Ronke Samo however desolved the Ademola Babalola led administration as She Inaugurated the New executives under the leadership of Abass Akeem.

The Oat of office was administered on the new Executive by Barrister Abduljelili Oladimeji while certificate of return was presented to Abass Akeem.

Recall that the National Daily.com.ng had earlier reported that Akeem Babatunde Abass defeated his opponents with 143 votes seconded by Raji Adebayo who pulled 118 while Sola Oladapo had 59 votes.
