APC Condemns PDP Factional Chairman Turaki Over Call for Foreign Intervention

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticised comments made by Tanimu Turaki, the newly declared factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in which he reportedly called for foreign powers to intervene in Nigeria.

Turaki, while addressing the media on the ongoing crisis within the PDP, alleged a “Christian genocide” in the country and urged the international community to step in to “protect democracy.”

The APC described the remark as reckless, desperate, and unpatriotic.

This was in a statement issued and signed on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party said Turaki, who assumed leadership of a faction of the PDP less than 72 hours ago, appeared “confused, incoherent, and grossly lacking in the capacity” to manage the party’s internal disputes.

The APC faulted Turaki for resorting to what it called an extreme and dangerous appeal instead of initiating peace and reconciliation efforts within his party.

“For his first official act as factional chairman to be a call for foreign invasion of Nigeria is as shameless as it is a threat to national security and sovereignty,” the statement said.

The ruling party further noted that during the PDP’s 16 years in power, internal conflicts within opposition parties never prompted calls for external intervention. It argued that Turaki’s position reflects the PDP’s inability to resolve its internal crisis and amounts to “a final certification of the party’s demise.”

The APC expressed confidence that the international community would dismiss what it termed a “disgraceful and unpatriotic” appeal, which it says underscores the “heightened desperation” of the opposition.

The statement concluded by urging Nigerians to remain supportive of the APC and President Bola Tinubu’s administration “as it continues the work of building progress and prosperity across all sectors.”
