Oyo Police Intensify Highway Security, Warn Against Spread of False Abduction Videos

The Oyo State Police Command has strengthened security operations across major highways following a surge in misleading online posts claiming abductions along the Lagos–Ibadan expressway.

The statement was released and signed by the Oyo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso.

According to him, several video clips and social media messages circulating in recent days—particularly those suggesting attacks in the Onigari axis, are false, outdated, and intended to cause public panic.

Oyo State Police command warn that such misinformation is capable of disrupting public peace and undermining ongoing security efforts.

In reaction, the Oyo State Police Command, working jointly with the Ogun State Police Command and the Ogun–Oyo Joint Security Committee, has increased patrols, intensified intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations, and boosted surveillance across border communities and strategic routes.

The heightened presence, the Command says, is designed to reassure residents and ensure smooth travel across both states.

The command noted that the state recently hosted a major music concert and a national convention without any security breaches, an outcome they attribute to the effectiveness of current security measures.

They however expressed concern that individuals continue to circulate outdated or manipulated videos aimed at causing fear.

The Command is urging the public to verify information before sharing, warning that anyone found spreading false content capable of inciting panic may face legal action.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to maintain safety across the state.
