Makinde Vows to Engage Genuine Landowners, Says Protests Over Circular Road Politically Motivated

Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde has pledged to engage with genuine landowners affected by the ongoing Ibadan Circular Road project, describing recent protests against the initiative as politically motivated.

The governor made this statement on Tuesday during the commissioning of the Ibadan Central Bus Terminal at Iwo Road, Ibadan.

Makinde explained that his administration inherited the Ibadan Circular Road project and expressed disappointment that some individuals were attempting to politicize an infrastructure project designed to deliver long-term economic and developmental benefits to Oyo State.

“Leadership is about making tough decisions for the future, not about playing to the gallery,” the governor said, reaffirming his commitment to completing the 113-kilometer road despite criticism on social media and in some quarters.

According to him, the Ibadan Circular Road remains a strategic part of his administration’s blueprint for sustainable development.

He added that once completed, the project would ease traffic congestion around Ibadan, open up new economic corridors, and attract significant investments to the state.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was present at the event, lauded Governor Makinde for his developmental strides, particularly in the area of infrastructure, describing his efforts as transformative for Oyo State.
