ISWAP Urges Unity Among West African Muslims Amid Talk of U.S. Intervention In Nigeria

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reacted to reported comments by former U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting potential American military action against the group in Nigeria.

In a propaganda statement circulated on its usual communication platforms, the group described Trump as a “reckless American tyrant,” alleging that his stance was influenced by “evangelical Christian and Jewish advisers” during his presidency. ISWAP accused Washington of attempting to portray itself as a “global defender of Christians.”

The militant organization warned that such rhetoric could draw the United States into wider conflicts in Africa, citing ongoing insurgencies in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique. It claimed that this aligns with what it described as the Islamic State’s broader strategy to stretch U.S. military resources across multiple global conflict zones.

According to the statement, Washington risks overextension if it engages militarily in regions such as Iraq, Syria, Somalia, Afghanistan, and the Lake Chad Basin.

ISWAP also issued new security directives to its fighters, urging them to avoid large gatherings, minimize movement, and limit smartphone use due to what it called an increased risk of U.S. surveillance and drone operations. The warning was extended to other Islamic State affiliates worldwide.

The group further called on Muslims in West Africa to “unite” against what it termed Western “crimes against African Muslims,” urging vigilance and preparedness in the face of potential U.S. intervention.
