PDP BoT Reaffirms Unity, Sets Up Reconciliation Committee Ahead of National Convention

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed the unity and stability of the party under the leadership of the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, following an emergency meeting held on Yesterday in Abuja.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the board expressed confidence in the Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP Governors’ Forum, and other organs of the party for their collective efforts in maintaining stability as preparations continue for the Elective National Convention, slated for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The BoT also welcomed the recent ruling of the Oyo State High Court, presided over by Justice A. L. Akintola, which upheld the PDP’s constitutional right to conduct its internal affairs, including the planned national convention.
The board described the judgment as “a victory for democracy, the rule of law, and political development in Nigeria.”
However, the BoT expressed concern over recent internal tensions and incidents, including the invasion of the party’s National Secretariat, describing them as “regrettable and not reflective of the ideals and character of the PDP.”
“As the conscience of the party, the BoT will not take sides but will remain focused on safeguarding the integrity of the PDP and promoting dialogue over discord,” the communique stated. It emphasized that reconciliation efforts should be seen as a show of maturity and responsibility, not weakness.
The BoT further announced the formation of a high-powered Reconciliation Committee to engage all aggrieved members and restore unity ahead of the national convention.
The committee members are as follows: Amb. Hassan Adamu (North East) – Chairman, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe (South South) – Secretary, Chief Ugochukwu Okeke (South East), Sen. Zaynab Kure (North Central), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (South West), and Dr. Lubna Mohammed Gusau (North West)
The committee has been directed to submit its report to the BoT by Tuesday, November 11, 2025, for further action.
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the BoT’s commitment to unity, peace, and internal democracy within the PDP as the party prepares for its forthcoming national convention.
