The Oyo State Government has commenced preparations for its 50th anniversary celebration, scheduled for February 2026.
The announcement was made on Monday, November 3, by Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, Chairman of the Oyo State @50 Celebrations Committee, during a press conference in Ibadan.
Hon. Akinade-Fijabi expressed gratitude and excitement as the state embarks on its golden jubilee celebration, describing it as a historic moment that honors the vision and resilience of Oyo State’s founding fathers.
“Oyo State @50 is more than an anniversary,” he said. “It is a reflection of our identity, our strength, our coexistence, and our shared dreams as a people.”
He recalled that the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. ‘Seyi Makinde, inaugurated the committee on October 8, 2025, to plan and coordinate activities marking the golden jubilee.
According to the chairman, the celebrations will span all six geopolitical zones of the state, featuring a variety of events that will involve citizens from all walks of life, regardless of age, gender, religion, or occupation.
“The government, legislature, judiciary, traditional and religious institutions, artisans, students, farmers, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders will all play key roles in celebrating our dear Pacesetter State,” Akinade-Fijabi said.
He emphasized that the celebration will highlight Oyo State’s achievements as the “cradle of learning,” a hub of creativity, and a pillar of economic and cultural excellence. It will also showcase the talents, innovations, and resilience of its people, both at home and in the diaspora.
In a bid to promote creativity and public participation, the committee also announced the launch of the Oyo @50 Logo, Theme, and Mascot Design Challenge.
The initiative invites creative minds within and beyond the state to submit designs that best capture the spirit of Oyo’s golden jubilee, reflecting its past achievements, vibrant present, and aspirations for the future.

The winning design will become the official emblem of the Oyo @50 celebrations.
Hon. Akinade-Fijabi urged all citizens, residents, and friends of Oyo State to actively participate in the celebrations, reaffirming the collective vision for a greater and more inclusive Oyo State.
“As we prepare for this landmark celebration, let us renew our commitment to building an Oyo State that continues to lead in education, governance, enterprise, and innovation,” he concluded. “Together, let us celebrate 50 years of excellence and envision the next 50 years of glory.”
