…As Army warns residents, farmers to avoid range area during Shining Star VIII drill

The 2 Division Nigerian Army, Training School is set to conduct a Range Classification Exercise for students participating in Exercise Shining Star VIII.

This was released through a statement by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, of the division, Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, emphasized that the exercise will take place from this Monday, to Friday, 12th of September 2025 at the Major General OF Azinta Shooting Range, located within Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan.

The statement stated that the exercise which marks the culmination of the training programme for the student soldiers and is aimed at enhancing their operational readiness and weapon-handling proficiency.

Acoording to the statement the exercise is part of the drill, which the participants will engage in live ammunition firing, which forms a critical component of their training curriculum.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Okoye the exercise is designed not only to refresh the troops’ skills as professional soldiers but also to assess their level of preparedness for future combat operations and other assigned military tasks.

In light of the exercise, the 2 Division Authorities advised residents of Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment and neighbouring communities not to be alarmed by the sound of gunfire during the stated period.

The Army has also issued a caution to farmers, hunters, and other users of the Range area to steer clear of the zone throughout the duration of the exercise for their own safety.

The Nigerian Army has appealed for public understanding and cooperation and urges all to comply strictly with safety guidelines.
