PDP Is Alive Nigerians Are Voting For Credible Alternatives | Dr. Adedipe Dauda EwenlaPDP Southwest Ex-Officio
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has repeatedly claimed that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is “dead.” Yet the results of the nationwide by- and re-run elections held on Saturday, 16 August 2025 have again proven that PDP remains alive, strong, and the only credible alternative Nigerians trust.
Despite intimidation, harassment, and thuggery deployed against PDP members across several states, Nigerians still came out in their thousands to vote for PDP candidates.
Evidence from the August 16 By-Elections
- Documented intimidation and arrests in Kano
The Kano Police Command confirmed detaining 288 suspected political thugs during the Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa Assembly polls.
The Guardian reported security agents intercepted over 100 armed thugs before order was restored.
Kano PDP openly rejected the process in Shanono/Bagwai, citing intimidation and irregularities.
- Targeting of opposition in Ogun State
In Ogun, police arrested the PDP State Chairman in the early hours before polls opened, allegedly over vote-buying — a clear case of intimidation.
Credible media, including Punch, documented violence, vote-buying, and suppression attempts in Ogun, Kaduna, and Kano.
- Clear PDP wins where Nigerians resisted coercion
In Oyo State, Nigeria Info reported PDP won the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election, with APC’s candidate even losing at his own polling unit.
Across several other constituencies, PDP polled strongly despite APC’s use of security agencies and hired thugs.
What These Results Show
- Voter resistance to APC intimidation: Nigerians refused to sell their votes. Even with arrests and harassment, PDP candidates secured strong results and outright victories.
- PDP’s organizational depth: With active structures in at least 10 governing states and competitive showings nationwide, the claim that “PDP is dead” is false and laughable.
- APC’s integrity gap: APC has shown again that it cannot win free and fair elections. It relies only on violence, intimidation, and abuse of security agencies. The massive arrests of thugs nationwide are further evidence of this broken system.
Our Call
The message from Nigerians is clear: PDP is alive, and PDP is the only true alternative. The August 16 by-elections proved once again that Nigerians want change, and come 2027, the APC will be voted out of Aso Rock.
We advise those who have miscalculated or abandoned the party to return to PDP before it is too late. Nigerians are ready, and PDP is the platform that will restore hope and good governance.
God bless the meaningful Nigerians who voted for PDP yesterday across the country.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
God bless PDP.
