Residents Protest Over Alleged Distortion of Awo Residential Layout Plan in Ibadan

Residents of Imalefalafia in Ibadan South-West local governnent area have protested agaunst alleged distortion of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo mapped out layout plan in the area.

They alleged that an ongoing building project directly opposite the head office of the African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc is in violation of the Town planning law.

They submitted that a twin one storey building was formerly situated on the two plots of land with access road in between the land and Dino Hotel.

However, after the acquisition of the land, the affected storey buildings were demolished by the new owner.

While the residents are not contesting the acquisition of the land, their grouse was premised on the blockage of the access that serves as link between Imalefalafia Street and College Crescent.

Irked by this devopment, the protesting residents stated that they would not close their eyes against what they perceived as an injustice.

In as much as we are not contesting the acquisition of the land, the distortion of the age long will not be accepted.

Imalefalafia and other adjoining streets in Oke-Ado are situated on a well planned layouts. It is sad to note that rather than improving on the well layout plan some residents want to distort it.

Also speaking one of the affected residents who identify herself as Mrs George sought government intervention on the matter.

One of the site workers who refused to mention his name disclosed that the acquired plots is designed as car park for the hotel.

We are not blocking the road as being insinuated but we will put an exit gate that will serve the proposed car park and other business owners on the access road.

A Town planning officer at the Ibadan Town Planning Authority, Ringwood, urged the affected resident to formally lodge their complain.

The affected residents have to lodge their complaint formally after which we will send our team to go and inspect the place foe proper action.

Also, the Ministry of Lands and Housing submitted that any action to turn Ibadan to a jungle will not be tolerated.
