712 Billion Naira For Airport Renovation: A Symbol Of Misplaced Priority And Economic Insensitive By The APC-Led Federal Govt| Amb. (Dr.) Adedipe Dauda EwenlaSouthwest PDP Ex-Officio

The recent announcement by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo (SAN), that a staggering sum of ₦712 billion naira has been earmarked for the renovation of Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, has sparked serious concerns among well-meaning Nigerians.

In a time when the country is facing unprecedented economic hardship, rising inflation, a depreciating currency, and widespread hunger, such a massive allocation to a non-essential infrastructure project amounts to nothing short of fiscal recklessness, corruption, and gross insensitivity to the plight of ordinary citizens.

Today, millions of Nigerians cannot afford two meals a day, basic amenities are out of reach, and the minimum wage remains shamefully inadequate. Yet, the APC-led administration continues to indulge in white elephant projects while citizens languish in poverty.

The same government that justifies such spending will inevitably return to international lenders, piling up loans that will plunge Nigeria deeper into debt and future economic enslavement.

This administration has clearly failed to prioritize the real needs of the people. What benefit will the average Nigerian derive from this multi-billion naira renovation? How does this improve food prices, electricity, education, healthcare, or job creation?

Even more disturbing is the shameless defense of these decisions by APC loyalists and social media sycophants, who choose political affiliation over national interest.

This blind loyalty only fuels misgovernance and further disconnects the ruling party from the suffering masses. However, there is a growing number of sincere and patriotic members within the APC who are now speaking out.

Many of them are in consultation with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and are preparing to defect in pursuit of a more competent and compassionate leadership for the country.

It is becoming increasingly evident that 2027 will mark the end of the APC’s tenure at the federal level. The Nigerian people are wiser, more politically aware, and tired of failed promises and recycled excuses.

The PDP, with its proven record of democratic values and people-oriented governance, remains the only viable alternative capable of rescuing Nigeria from the current abyss.

Let it be known: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC must not return to Aso Rock in 2027. Nigeria deserves better. Nigerians are ready.
