…As Oba Ajibola condemns money-driven appointments, calls for due process in chieftaincy matters

The Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Royal Highness, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, has advised the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to avoid using his forthcoming position to settle personal scores or witch-hunt perceived enemies within Ibadan and the Olubadan-in-Council.

Oba Ajibola made this known in an interview with 32FM News Correspondent, Ogundele Olanrewaju, while speaking on developments following the death of the 43rd Olubadan, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed on June 7, 2025.

The Balogun Olubadan urged the incoming monarch to be inclusive, embrace all stakeholders, and focus on reforms—particularly in the selection process for Mogaji (family heads) in Ibadanland.

“The appointment of Mogaji should no longer be driven by money or favoritism. It must follow due process and reflect the character, dignity, and conduct of the individuals being considered,” he said.

Oba Ajibola expressed concern over the growing number of improper Mogaji installations, warning that it often leads to crises and disharmony. He stressed the need for comprehensive reform to restore honor to the traditional institution.

He also cautioned traditional council members to maintain decorum and avoid engaging in thuggery or land grabbing, emphasizing that such behavior erodes public respect for traditional rulers.

Regarding the next steps in the succession process, Oba Ajibola noted that the Olubadan-in-Council is observing a mandatory 21-day mourning period in line with traditional rites adding that by next week, the mourning period will be over, and the Council will meet to begin the formal installation process for the new Olubadan.

He called on all residents and indigenes of Ibadan to support Olubadan designate Oba Rashidi Ladoja in his new role to ensure peace and unity across Ibadanland.
