Technical University Ibadan Partner With OYSHMB to Establish College of Medicine

The Oyo State Hospitals’ Management Board (OYSHMB) has announced a strategic partnership with Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan, for the establishment of a College of Medicine and other health-related academic programs.
The initiative is aimed at increasing the number of healthcare professionals in the state and addressing the shortage caused by the migration of medical personnel seeking opportunities abroad.
This was stated during a stakeholders’ meeting held, held at the Oyo State Hospital Management Board (OYSHMB) Administrative Headquarter, Secretariat, Ibadan.
In his address, The Chairman of OYSHMB, Dr. Akin Fagbemi, emphasized the board’s commitment to bridging the healthcare workforce gap in Oyo State.
He highlighted that similar partnerships have previously been established with institutions such as Lead City University, Ajayi Crowther University, and Fountain University.
Dr. Fagbemi praised the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde for its significant investments in the health sector, citing recent recruitment drives, prompt salary payments, civil service promotions, and the implementation of the new minimum wage.
“The establishment of the College of Medicine at Abiola Ajimobi Technical University will not only increase the number of medical doctors in Oyo State but also enhance the delivery of quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare services to residents,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the university, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adesola Ajayi, described the partnership as a welcome development and noted that the idea of establishing a medical college had long been in the university’s strategic plan, though previously delayed by administrative and regulatory challenges.
“We are committed to seeing this project through. It’s a vision we’ve nurtured for years, and with this collaboration, we are confident of its successful implementation,” Prof. Ajayi stated.
He also commended Governor Makinde’s leadership, particularly in infrastructure development and economic reforms across the state.
The university’s Vice Chancellor further expressed appreciation to Dr. Fagbemi and his team for facilitating the collaboration, calling it “a positive milestone in the history of the university.”
Also speaking at the meeting, the Permanent Secretary of OYSHMB, Dr. Anifat Ibraheem, reiterated the board’s openness to partnering with institutions that are genuinely committed to contributing to the growth and development of Oyo State.
The meeting was attended by top officials from both institutions. Representing OYSHMB were Dr. Akin Fagbemi, Dr. Anifat Ibraheem, and several directors of the board.
The delegation from Abiola Ajimobi Technical University included Prof. Adesola Ajayi, Acting Registrar Mrs. Olanrewaju Omotola, Chief Legal Officer Barr. Adeyemi Opakunle, and Dr. Caleb Aborisade, Acting Head of the Department of Physics and Science Laboratory Technology.
