The Oyo State Advisory Council has declared that the ongoing upgrade of the Ladoke Akintola International Airport Ibadan, will significantly boost the state’s economy through strategic government and private sector collaboration.

The assertion was made by the Chairman of the Oyo State Governor’s Advisory Council, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), during an on-the-spot assessment of the airport’s construction site.

Chief Ayorinde described the airport upgrade as a “legacy project” that will outlive its initiators and deliver long-term economic benefits to the people of Oyo State.

He praised Governor Seyi Makinde for expanding on the vision of past administrations and laying the foundation for a more prosperous future.

“This is not just a project for today, but a legacy that will benefit generations to come.

Governor Makinde is not only a visionary leader but one committed to development that transcends his tenure,” Ayorinde stated.

He further urged residents of the state to take ownership of the project, emphasizing that while the government may initiate development, it is the people who must sustain and protect it.

In his remarks, Bimbo Adekanmbi, Chairman of the Ibadan Airport Upgrade Committee, assured that major components of the project—including the runway, runway markings, and other auxiliary works—will be completed by the end of November 2025.

Adekanmbi appealed for continued public understanding and patience, noting that upon completion, the upgraded airport will not only serve the people of Oyo State but also become a source of pride and utility for all Nigerians.

“This airport, when completed, will be a world-class facility that every citizen can be proud of. It will serve beyond Ibadan or Oyo State—it will serve the nation,” he said.

During the visit, members of the Advisory Council inspected various parts of the project including the runway, terminal buildings, and other ongoing construction work.

The inspection was led by Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), alongside other key members of the Council and airport committee.
