…As Govt Deploys Experts to Assess Igbeti Rock Slide Situation
Oyo State government has cautioned the residents of Igbeti, Olorunsogo local government to avoid activities near the rock slide until it is deemed safe noting that the state government has been coordinating with local authorities, including the local government and traditional Institution, to take necessary actions.
The cautioned was given by the Director General Oyo State Mineral Development Agency, Mr Abiodun Oni while on inspection to the site of recent rock slide incident at Igbeti, Olorunsogo local government of the state.

While explaining the cause, Abiodun Oni expressed that the rock was subjected to extreme heat, causing a weak part to come down noting that there was no casualties, assured of government to prevent any potential risks.

The Director-General implored residents and farmers to stay away from the rock for now, as it is still considered an active system.
Speaking with Journalist, The Chairman Olorunsogo local government, Hon. Kazeem Olayanju who was represented by the vice chairman, Hon. Adetoro Adegbola said that the local government has taken steps to disseminate information to residents and is working on erecting a barricade to prevent people from accessing the area.

He also noted that the council is working with the traditional Institution to inform residents about the incident and the need to stay away from the rock.

Also Speaking with Journalist , The Onigbeti of Igbeti-land, Oba (Engr) Bashir Abioye, lauded the Oyo State Government for taking necessary steps to prevent loss of life.
He added that he has tasked a team of experts to evaluate the situation and ensure the rock is safe.

The traditional ruler noted posited that the incident is a continuation of a similar event last year and appreciated the government’s efforts in deploying experts to assess the situation.
Recall the rock slide incident in Igbeti occurred on 7th of June 2025.
