Tinubu’s Wife Raises Concern Over Increasing Rate of Cervical Cancer, FGM, Others
…Seeks support of traditional rulers
The First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has sought for support of traditional rulers across the nation towards ending cervical cancer, Female Genital Mutilation, (FGM), tuberculosis and others across the nation.
She said collaboration of traditional institutions across the country became necessary so as to have virus free society.
Speaking in Ibadan while meeting traditional rulers, Mrs Tinubu said traditional rulers should play their part in sensitising the public at the grassroots on danger possed by the viruses.

She said, “Shortly after we were sworn in, we started putting things together and we had a meeting with all the First Ladies of State and look at the way we are going to come up with initiatives that will benefit our people.
“Im the global champion for Stop TB, and Tuberculosis Advocacy Campaign, end Tuberculosis Advocacy Campaign,
“Because we have to end tuberculosis in Nigeria by 2030. So, please, the government is treating those who have, and, you know, there is no stigma to it.

“Because tuberculosis is airborne, so, once you are having this problem, please get tested. Because you can pass it on to other people who are not vaccinated.
She however thanked the traditional rulers in attendance, wives of governors, and members of RHI among others.

In his welcome remark, governor Seyi Makinde said the Mrs Tinubu’s meeting with traditional rulers across the state is important and strategic because the state government have been working with them in connecting to the grassroot.

The governor said, “They do not embellish, if you need any feedback from them, be rest assured of their sincerity response, they are important part of governance in Oyo State.”
Oba Owoade, who spoke on behalf of traditional rulers in the state said Mrs Tinubus visit was a testament to federal government commitment to the development of Oyo State.
He said the Renewed Hope Initiative by the wife of the President will benefit people in the state and contribute to the growth of the people.
He noted that Mrs Tibunus motherly role is commendable, assuring support and collaboration of people of the state.
Oba Ogunwusi said he is proud of Mrs Tinubu haven’t being a pillar of support behind the President.
The monarch commended Mrs Tinubu for her Renewed Hope Initiative which according to him has touched millions of lives across the nation, saying the initiative has been complementing effort of President Tinubu.
In the entourage of the the first lady was wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shentima, wife of the Speaker of House of Representatives, Mrs Fatimah Abass, wife of governors, and members of the Renewed Hope Initiative amen Ng others.
Traditional rulers at the meeting include: The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, the Ooni of Ile Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Olaoye, representative of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Aseyin of Iseyinland, Oba Sefiu Oyebola, and the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Also among others.
