Oyo State Govt Vows to Apprehend Tax Defaulters
…As Oyo Govt urged tax-payers to settle their tax obligations online to avoid legal consequences
The Oyo State government has warned tax evaders in the state to pay their taxes or face legal consequences.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Internal Revenue Board, Hon. Femi Awakan, issued this warning during an interview with 32FM News Correspondent Ogundele Olanrewaju in his office.
Awakan emphasized the significance of tax payments to the state government’s coffers, which fund infrastructure development and worker salaries.
He stated that the current administration aims to reduce dependence on federal revenue allocation and instead focus on internal revenue generation.
Awakan also disclosed that in January 2025, Oyo State received over N9 billion in monthly allocation noting that with Governor Seyi Makinde’s support, the state is poised to achieving more before the end of the current administration.
Awakan identified tax evasion as a major challenge and vowed to use all legal means to apprehend evaders.
He urged recalcitrant taxpayers to settle their tax obligations online, highlighting the benefits of reduced human interference and leakages in the system.
Taxpayers can pay their taxes online through the Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue’s website, making it easier to comply with tax laws.
