…As Oyo State Govt Warns Against Indiscriminate Trailer Parking

Oyo State government has cracked down on shanties built beside the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway toll gate and those under high electricity power lines, as well as illegal parking of trucks and trailers on the highway.

The enforcement exercise, was a joint effort led by Compol Sunday Odukoya, Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security, involved OYRTMA, environmental officers, FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies.

Speaking with Newsmen The Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security, Compol Sunday Odukoya emphasized that the enforcement exercise was crucial to prevent loss of life, citing the dangers of indiscriminate trailer parking on the highway.

He noted that the exercise would be continuous, as past warnings had been ignored, and stressed the need for proactive government action to protect lives and property.

In his remarks, The Chairman of Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, Major Adekoya Adesagba rtd described the operation as a collaborative effort involving multiple security agencies.

He highlighted the importance of preventing environmental hazards and security threats, particularly along the state’s gateway.

In his reaction, Abass Ademola, representative of the Diesel Sellers Association and one of the shanty occupiers, appealed to the government to provide alternative arrangements, warning that the exercise could lead to serious unemployment and insecurity in the state.

He claimed that no prior notice was given before the demolition.

The operation which was aimed to enforce state laws against those disobeying Environmental and traffic law, ensuring peace and easy movement of vehicles on the highway.

The enforcement operation was a joint Security efforts which includes, OYRTMA, FRSC, Environmental officers, Operation Burst, Amotekun, and Nigeria Civil Defence Corp.
