Molade Community Cries Out Over Epileptic Power Supply, Appeals to FG for Intervention
Residents of Molade in the Iwo Road area of Ibadan have decried the persistent power outages in their community, stating that it has made life unbearable for them.
In an exclusive interview with inforefined news, the residents expressed frustration that despite being categorized under the Band C category, which is supposed to receive 12 hours of electricity, they barely get up to 6 hours of power daily.
“Most times, the power comes in the middle of the night, and during the day, it’s only available for about an hour,” they lamented.
Madam Olabisi, a provisions trader, complained that despite paying her electricity bills monthly, she doesn’t receive the service she pays for. “I’m tired of paying for a service that I’m not getting,” she said. “I have to purchase iced blocks to keep my drinks cold. If I don’t, people won’t buy from me.”
According to Madam Olabisi, the epileptic power supply is affecting her income. “Look at it now; I have to use iced blocks to freeze my beverages and water. If I don’t do that, people won’t buy from me.”
Similarly, Mr. Alake, a resident of the area, stated that the power situation has forced him to seek alternative power sources. “Despite the power failure, IBEDC staff still come to threaten to disconnect our light from the grid,” he said.
Mr. Alake appealed to the federal government, specifically the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and other relevant authorities to intervene and put an end to the long-standing problem.
“I’m tired of this country,” he exclaimed. “We applied and paid for a meter over a year ago, but there’s no meter, and we’ve been paying for lost revenue since then. Yet, the power problem persists. I had to opt for solar power since the government can’t provide basic amenities like electricity.”
Mr. Alake wondered how the government expects Nigerians to survive the harsh economy when they have to pay extra for electricity they’re not using. “Is it not ridiculous that I have to pay monthly for electricity I’m not getting and also pay for solar power?” he asked.
