NLC Issues Ultimatum to IBEDC, PIPLL As Picketing of Offices to Commence March 10

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has issued a stern warning to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and its outsourcing company (PIPLL) that the labour union would commence picketing of all IBEDC offices across the state from Monday, March 10, 2025 if there is no compliance to honour the agreement made to the labour union and the federal government.
The warning statement was issued today and signed by the Secretary of Nigeria Labour Congress, Oyo State Council, Comrade, Adebayo Aribatise, which was aimed at compelling IBEDC and PIPLL to act in good faith and honour the agreement made to the NLC.
According to the statement, Seven-day ultimatum issued by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Labour has elapsed, yet no tangible action has been taken, noting that the development has raised concerns among the sacked workers IBEDC and the NLC, which has been advocating for their rights.
The statement noted The NLC is aware that a crucial meeting is scheduled to hold between IBEDC and PIPLL, and it expects a positive outcome.
The Labour Union, however, is prepared to take decisive action if the agreement reached between the Federal Government, Oyo State NLC, and PIPLL is not honored.
The Labour Union made it clear that any deviation from the agreement will be met with an immediate response.
The statement noted that NLC will not tolerate any form of injustice against workers and remains committed to ensuring that their rights are upheld.
The Labour Union, however, urged IBEDC and PIPLL to prevent any industrial action that may disrupt operations, noting that NLC believed that is essential for all parties to work together to ensure that the rights of the company workers are protected.
It would be recalled that the staff of IBEDC commenced protest on February 6, 2025, over increment of their monthly salaries and the Electricity Company through it outsourcing agent PIPLL dismissed over 3,000 employee.
