Remi Tinubu, Extends Young Farmers Club Initiative to Oyo State

… As program Partners with Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to Promote Agricultural Educatio, Practical Farming Skills

Wife of Nigeria’s President, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu on Thursday, 27, 2025 inaugurated Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Young Farmers Club in Oyo State.

The program, which was in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security was dedicated towards empowering young people with tools and knowledge in farming.

Speaking in Ibadan, Mrs Tinubu, who was represented at the event by wife of Oyo state governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde stated that farming is essential to ensure food security across the nation.

Mrs Makinde, who is the RHI Coordinator in the state said activity of the Young Farmers Club will fosters passion for farming and agribusiness among the youth, adding that the club will help to promote food security and vibrant agricultural practies in Nigeria.

She noted that membership of the club is open to all public primary and junior secondary school students in Nigeria.

According to her, the Young Farmers Club provides platform for membership to learn modern farming techniques, share knowledge and develop skills that will help them succeed in farming.

She said, “The club is more than just a group. It is a movement we hope will influence our young ones’ perspective of agriculture. Many of you students see farming as an occupation for older people. But I tell you that is a lie. Farming is for everyone.

“Hence, this program is intended to encourage young people in farming, promote agricultural education and practical farming skills, as well as foster the sense of responsibility towards sustainable farming practices.

“Consequently, we hope that the knowledge and skills acquired from this program will contribute to the agricultural sector and promote food security in Nigeria.”

Mrs Makinde said the aim of the club was to help young ones to embrace and cultivate culture of farming at an early age, develop a sense of responsibility towards ideal and vibrant farming practices, encouraging the youth’s participation and engagement in farming, and fostering entrepreneurship in an innovative agricultural sector.

She however thanked Mrs Tinubu for extending the laudable initiative to all states, commending Federal Ministry and Food Security for partnering with RHI to induct over 150 students into the Young Farmers Club in the state.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Education in the state, Prof. Solihu Adelabu said education is incomplete without agriculture.

He urged students to revived school farm in their various schools, adding that Nigeria need to start from the scratch to ensure food security.
