Oyo SWAN Honors Oluyole LG Chairman, Olatunji With Award Of Excellence
The Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State Chapter, has conferred an Award of Excellence on the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Asiwaju Akeem Olatunji, in recognition of his contributions to grassroots sports development in the state.
The prestigious honor was presented during a special ceremony held at the Oyo state Council of the NUJ in Ibadan on February 25, where prominent sports journalists and stakeholders in the sports sector gathered to celebrate Olatunji’s achievements.
In his remarks, Oyo SWAN Chairman, Mr. Ayomiku Ajibola, commended Olatunji for his dedication and support for grassroots sports development, noting that his administration has continued to play a key role in encouraging youth participation in sports.
“Hon. Olatunji has consistently supported grassroots sports in Oluyole Local Government, and created opportunities for young talents to showcase their skills.
“SWAN in Oyo state aligns with such dedication and commitment. This award is therefore, a recognition of his efforts and a call for more leaders to invest in sports,” Ayomiku stated.
Expressing his gratitude, the Oluyole Council boss represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Babalola Abdulazeez, dedicated the award to the youth of Oluyole.
He re-emphasized his commitment to ensuring that sports remain a tool for youth empowerment and community development as well as socio-economic growth at the grassroots.
“Like I always say, what we have committed ourselves to do in Oluyole is to align our plans with the visionary and transformative leadership and programs of Governor Seyi Makinde not only in sport development but in security, agriculture, education, and local economy.
“So, this award is not really for me but for the young people in Oluyole who continue to strive for excellence in sports. We will not relent in our efforts to provide better facilities and opportunities for them,” Olatunji said.
According to testimonies at the event, Olatunji’s administration has spearheaded several initiatives to enhance sports infrastructure in Oluyole, including renovation of local sporting facilities, sponsorship of community tournaments, and talent discovery programs.
Also present at the event were the Supervisory Councillor for Youth and Sports; Hon. Mariam Abass and other LG officials from Oluyole local government.
