Renewed Hope Initiative: Tinubu’s Wife Empowers Women Farmers in Oyo
…Enhances Food Sustainability
Nigeria First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has empowered women who are into farming in Oyo State to boost food sustainability in the state.
The empowerment include training for the beneficiaries, donation of cash and farm equipments to encourage women in agriculture.
The ‘Women Agricultural Support Programme in Oyo State’ was put together by Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in partnership with Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the First Lady of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of Mrs Tinubu, wife of Oyo State governor who is the Coordinator of RHI in the state, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde described the programme as a prove of the President wife commitment to empowering women in Agriculture and ensuring food security across the nation.
She stated that empowering women is so essential in achieving true equality, financial freedom and unlocking the potential of half of the worlds population, adding that with the call for diversification of Nigeria economy, initiatives like this showed that government is not just paying leap service for diversification.
According to her, agriculture has been the main stay of economy especially in the south west because it has provided sustainance, employment and economic empowerment to millions in the nation.
She said, “We can achieve this with dedication. Here in Oyo State, we recognize the critical role women play in Agricultural production from subsistent farming to a large scale production. Women are not just farmers, they are food providers, business owners and driver of national development.
“By empowering women in Agriculture, we’re not only enhancing food security but also fosturing economy goals.”
She however thanked Mrs Tinubu for her continuous efforts in uplifting women across different sectors and for working with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
She however urged beneficiaries to embrace best practices of the empowerment so that Oyo state can create sustainable agricultural service, encourage value addition and food sufficiency service for generation to come.
In her remarks, the Oyo State Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Kakulu Omonele said the programme will encourage more women to join farming and help to improve those already in farming.
Some of the benefiaries lauded effort of Mrs Tinubu towards welfare of women across the nation.
They also applauded Mrs Makinde for the programme, promising to use the empowerment judiciously.
