Nigerian Army Aviation Provides Security Support For Ondo State Off-Cycle Gubernatorial Elections
…As Aerial Patrols Guarantee Safety and Security During Voting
…As Troops Deployed Across 18 Local Govt Areas to Prevent Violence
As part of efforts to boost security of the ongoing 2024 off cycle gubernatorial elections in Ondo State, the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Obinna Onubogu, is currently patrolling overhead Ondo State, to strengthen security of ongoing election processes.
General Onubogu, alongside the Commander, Operation Safe Conduct, Ondo 2024, Brigadier General John Lar, and the Army Headquarters Election Monitoring Team, are currently being flown across all Local Government Areas in Ondo State, by NA Aviation Pilots.
According to a source from 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, the aerial patrol is aimed at ensuring that troops are operating in line with the statutory role of the Armed Forces of Nigeria during elections. It is also to monitor the processes to ensure and sustain adequate security.
Feedback from the Team shows that the troops deployed appropriately; operating more than 200m away from polling units across the 18 Local Government Areas in Ondo State.
So far, security arrangements for the elections appear to be working well. We appreciate the Nigerian Army, the entire Armed Forces, and other relevant security agencies for the good job they are doing to keep Ondo State and Nigeria safe, peaceful, and united.
