Three more persons have been confirmed dead, adding to the 10 fatalities reported earlier, while 3 out of 7 hospitalized persons have also succumbed to their injuries, following a building collapse at Jegede Area of Olorunsogo, Ona-Ara local government, Ibadan.

The incident occurred at 12am due to a rainstorm that collapsed the storey building, according to eyewitnesses. Mallam Okanlawan Yusuf, speaking with 32FM News correspondent Ogundele Olanrewaju, revealed that the building was used to treat psychiatric patients and confirmed the incident occurred at exactly 12am today.

Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Mr. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, stated that the collapsed building was not meant to be occupied and announced that Governor Seyi Makinde has approved an amnesty building and integrity tests for all buildings in the state.

Ona-Ara local government chairman, Temitope Kolapo, described the incident as a disastrous event, receiving a distress call around 11:45 pm.

He attributed the collapse to the thunderstorm, which trapped many people inside the building.

The Oyo State Police Command has ensured adequate security to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the incident scene and protect lives and property of other residents within the area.

Those who died were buried in a mass burial at the scene of the incident.

Security agencies and Emergency agencies were seen at the scene rescuing victims and protecting lives and properties.
