Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) Chairman, Major Adesagba Adekoya, has seized and Impounded 58 vehicles for various traffic infractions, intensifying efforts to enforce traffic laws.

The enforcement drive led by the Chairman Oyo state Road Traffic Management Authority, Major Adesagba Adekoya (rtd), targeting illegal conversions of lay-bys and walkways, unauthorized stopping, indiscriminate parking, and one way infractions.

Speaking at an event marking his one-year anniversary in office, Adekoya (rtd) highlighted the agency’s efforts to create awareness about traffic laws through campaigns in motor garages, marketplaces, and radio jingles.

He emphasized the importance of enforcing traffic laws in the state.

The chairman expressed concern over the high rate of one-way violations, which pose significant danger to pedestrians and motorists, particularly during the Ember Month.

With increased movement expected during this period, Adekoya stressed the need for caution, urging drivers to avoid alcohol consumption and ensure their vehicles are well-maintained.

Adekoya also emphasized the importance of proper tyre maintenance to prevent slippery roads during the raining season.

He noted that despite government investments in improving parking spaces, such as the Bus-stop Gate Parking area, some motorists still park on the roads, contributing to congestion.

To address this, OYRTMA has collaborated with Amotekun and other paramilitary organizations to enforce traffic laws.

Adekoya warned motorists to shun lawlessness and obey state laws, citing the establishment of tribunals to prosecute traffic and environmental law offenders.

The agency’s enforcement drive will continue as a frequent operation to maintain safe and congestion-free roads.

Adekoya advised motorists to utilize existing parking facilities to prevent traffic congestion.

He highlighted the enforcement areas; One-way violations, High-risk behavior which endangering pedestrians and motorists.

The chairman admonished motorists on vehicle maintenance, regular checks to prevent accidents.

The enforcement drive which was a joint enforcement operations with paramilitary organizations, Amotekun and others.

The chairman noted that the state has established tribunal to try traffic and environmental law offenders and the state planned to amends traffic laws to increase penalties for violators.

OYRTMA’s commitment to enforcing traffic laws aims to ensure a safe and efficient transportation system in Oyo State.

The crackdown focused on Iwo-Road, Ojoo, Sango, and Mokola, Bus-stop Gate Areas, and Idi-Ape junction priotizing improved traffic management and road safety.
