South-West States Launch Farmer’s Market to Tackle Food Insecurity As Trade Fair to Attract Global Investors, Showcase Regional Potentials

In order to tackle food insecurity security, South-West states have expressed readiness to launch Farmer market, where farm produces will be sell at cheaper price to people.

Region President, Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Chief Wole Akinwande revealed this at the Press conference on Oodua Investment International Trade Fair, held at Exxpoyo, Ibadan.

Chief Akinwande, said this year trade fair themed “Harnessing Food Security Systems and Natural Resources for Sustainable Development and Wealth Creation” is to reactivate trade fair which was last held in 2014 having previously held in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010.

While emphasized the need to support local farmers and promote agricultural development in Oyo State and it’s environs, he hinted that the farmers market aside from providing an avenue for farmers to sell their farm produce at affordable prices, it will also empower them economically.

Chief Akinwande, therefore appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde, for extending redemption of trade fair in Oyo State, to other southwest states, which he described as additional efforts to expand economy, and showcase potentials and attract investors across the globe into the region.

In his remark, Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives, Adeniyi Adebisi, expressed readiness of Oyo State Government to ensure success of the trade fair and leverage on it in preparation for 2025 Oyo state international trade fair.

The commissioner represented by Director of Trade, Mrs. Modupe Adesina, who assured participants that security personnel have been reinforced to guarantee adequate security called on media professionals to sensitize people more.

At the trade fair that will attract participants from home and abroad, including representatives of federal ministries of Agriculture, Trade and delegations from the 6 concerned states, Special days will be designated to Odu’accima in each states, organizations and well known industrialist.
